Customising Zimbra with Zimlets and skins

Which Zimlets we support, and what happens when you ask for a custom one.

Zimlets add features to Zimbra, and skins change how it looks. We support a number of Zimlets on the platform already, and you can use those straight away.

Custom Zimlets and skins

We consider every request, but we do not install custom Zimlets on demand. The platform is shared, so anything added to it affects every mailbox on it.

A Zimlet can introduce instability or a security weakness. Each one therefore needs evaluating and testing before it goes near the platform, which takes at least half a day and considerably longer when problems appear. Even Zimbra's own Zimlets can cause trouble during upgrades.

There is a long tail too. Once people use a Zimlet daily, keeping it working becomes our responsibility, and debugging one has taken days before now.

What we will do

Where a Zimlet is a worthwhile addition for the platform as a whole, we will look at adding it.

Where a Zimlet or skin is specific to your business and would suit only a few users, we will quote for evaluating, installing and maintaining it.

If you need freedom the shared platform cannot give you, we can supply a dedicated Zimbra machine instead.
