Reaching the Zimbra directory from outside

Whether you can query the Zimbra LDAP directory from your own network.

No. The LDAP directory is reachable only from inside the platform, and we cannot open it to external addresses. The platform is shared, so one directory holds accounts for every domain on it, and exposing it would expose all of them.

Directory information is available two other ways. The Global Address List in webmail lists the addresses on your own domain, which covers looking somebody up. For anything programmatic, the Zimbra API reaches account data through an interface built to be used from outside.

If neither fits, a dedicated Zimbra machine can be configured differently. Contact support to discuss it.
