Why Does My Browser Say Your Connection is Not Secure When SSL Certificate is Valid?

Is you web browser intermittently telling you that the connection to your Zimbra email account is not secure - but you know your webmail account has a valid SSL certificate? - then please read on for some possible causes.

This could be due the contents of an email you receive into your inbox that has links to embedded images etc, that are located on an external server that is not using SSL - this will flag the page as a whole as insecure. Even when you browse away from the insecure email, the warning will remain until you refresh the page. If you click on the padlock image in the browser address bar, you will see something like:

In Zimbra Webmail , there is a setting under Preferences -> Mail -> Displaying Messages -> Images (Display external images automatically in HTML Email.)

If you uncheck this setting that should help get rid of the SSL Not Secure error - but it's not an ideal solution - as the HTML email will not be displayed properly .

You might also see this SSL error on a website that links to images or other pages that do not use SSL.
